Steve Cotterill reflects on Town's Sky Bet League One away loss against Oxford United

Shrewsbury Town's evening in Oxfordshire came to a disappointing end with Salop losing out 2-0 against Karl Robinson's Oxford United.

Despite a positive performance in the first period, the home side were able to notch twice to ensure the U's secured all three points at home.

Steve Cotterill was disappointed with the result and felt Town should have capitalised on their chances during the first half.

On the result:

"On the back of Saturday, we wanted to build and get back-to-back wins for the first time this season. We did well enough in the first half. When you start the second half as we did, you give yourself a mountain to climb. We've kicked ourselves in the teeth. We have to get a block on the shot and squeeze up.

"The defence that was so good on Saturday, wasn't as good tonight. When you come away to a place like Oxford, you need everyone to play well in your back four. I thought we had quite a few chances in the second half that you don't normally get here. If I'm honest, I thought they'd run out of ideas in the first half.

"It's one of a disappointment really with how we started the second half. For the second goal right at the death, we've cleared the ball well and haven't got out quick enough to get the block on the shot. The shot came through a load of bodies and then it's very difficult. Oxford have always been difficult to play against over the last few years.

"As I said, we were good in the first half and I was quite happy with where we were. We were organised, limited them and had some good chances ourselves. We have to take our chances when we get them. We've had better chances than what they had with their goals. If we don't take our chances, that's what happens. The longer the game goes on, we end up snatching at things when we've had good opportunities."
